What These Projects Have in Common
None of them were solved by adding more of the same insulation. In each case the building had a shape, an exposure or a use that made air sealing and the moisture behaviour of the assembly the deciding factor, not the R-value printed on a bag of batts.
That is the pattern across most of our work in Oregon. A crawl space that stays damp because it is ventilated into humid air. A shop that cannot hold heat because the metal skin has no thermal break. A roof deck where there is not enough depth to reach the target R-value with a low-density material. Spray foam gets specified because it solves the actual constraint, and where it is not the right answer we say so during the estimate.
